The historic bremen theater
We stepped out in faith to take on the task of restoring the historic Bremen Theater. In a few short months we have had several groups participate in the project. We have already removed several dumpsters of debris from the old theater. Architecture for Humanity has recently finished a set of plans for the project.

Groups from St. Charles Missouri and Tulsa Oklahoma have helped us remove trash and debris from the interior. One day we hope to see a community theater develop in this place that will cultivate the arts and provide an opportunity for the talent of Hyde Park to thrive.

When we first began to work on the theater you could not walk freely through the isles. We began by cleaning out the debris that blocked the way. Today we have clear access through the theater and up to the balcony where we continue to remove debris.
The balcony was in bad shape. The area had last been converted to classrooms for an old church. The original seats are there but they were just thrown around.
There are different descriptions of the theater and the number of seats. It will seat between 600 and 700 once restored. The goal is to have a non-profit community resource that can develop the artistic talents of the neighborhood.
The old ticket booth still stands in the entry foyer. It is lined with white marble and trimmed in ornate wood trim.
If you would like to take part in our restoration of this theater please contact Dr. Terry Goodwin. We are currently forming a committee that will guide the restoration and raise the money needed for the work.
In the coming months we will begin scheduled work days on the outside of the theater. Check back here for photos from the work crews and to see our progress.
Here are pictures from two of the work crews that have already begun work on the theater. If you would like to bring a work crew to the site we would love to assist you. We are currently in need of an adult crew with carpentry skills to come and remove the remaining wood from the balcony. The work is too dangerous for a youth group. Once the weather warms up and we can again work outside, we can use a greater age range in the work.
