Reclaiming Windsor Park

As part of our ongoing efforts to reclaim Windsor Park we have started a free baseball league for the neighborhood kids. The league plays on Saturday at 2pm. It runs from April 10 through June 12. The league was made possible by donations of used baseball equipment. Mark Sanford and Chris Goodwin are volunteering time to coach the kids.

Earlier this year the St. Louis Parks department took down the fence and backstop at this park. The field had been neglected to the point that no infield dirt remained. Thanks to Alderman Freeman Bosley Sr., Charles Lunsford and the St. Louis Parks Department, a new fence and backstop was put up. On April 17th a crew of volunteers from Sun Ministries joined with kids from the neighborhood that have joined the league to cut a new infield for the baseball diamond.

Jason Hughes rented a sod cutter and the new infield was stripped down to dirt. The sod that was removed was hauled across the street to three city owned lots. On April 24th at 2 pm the first official game of this new league will played on the new field the kids helped to build.

The free league open to kids ages 7 - 13 that live in or near the Hyde Park area. If you would like to participate please drop by the park or contact us. We need adult volunteers to help teach the kids baseball basics. We are still in need of gloves.
